"I enjoy listening to the Grateful Dead. And I enjoy taking my wife on trips so she'll let me travel to go see the Grateful Dead."

Coach Cameron Cox

What do your parents or spouse call you when you are in trouble?

CAMERON!

Do you have any embarrassing nicknames? What are they?

My last name in general, Cox.

What actor or actress would you like to play you in a movie?

Arnold in the first Conan. He was super jacked for that movie.

How long have you been coaching?

Since 2016.

Have you had other careers, or currently work in another field? What are they?

I used to cook in fine dining and have been the GM of a fast food restaurant.

Who’s your favorite BLOC client? (JK, don’t answer that.)

MYSELF

Who’s your least favorite BLOC client? (JK, again.)

Myself when I let my coach down.

If you could time travel back to when you first started coaching, what advice would you give yourself?

Be patient. Work hard. The future is bright!

What are some of your favorite things to do when you’re not working or training?

I enjoy listening to the Grateful Dead. And I enjoy taking my wife on trips so she’ll let me travel to go see the Grateful Dead.

What is your favorite lift?

Bench Press

Where do you live?

Charleston, SC

What is your favorite animal print?

Alligator. But actual alligator. Not print!

Gym cat, dog or something else?

dog

How long have you been training?

Started in high school, but I’ve been “back in the gym” since 2013.

What is the most embarrassing moment from any dark days of “lifting” that you may have had?

I used to shave my legs when I was leaner. I’d do it again if I got lean enough!

What do you love about training?

When I work hard, it pays off in a short amount of time.

What do you love about coaching?

It’s not a super stressful or physically demanding job. Cooking was both of those. Helping people is cool too.

What lifting achievement are you most proud of?

500 squat. And my quads ripped some shorts one time.

Would you rather magically increase each of your PRs by 20%, or magically increase one of your lifts by 100%?

Magically increase one of my lifts by 100%

Would you rather not have to eat food and have your ideal body composition, or get to eat 6,000 calories per day and have your ideal body composition?

Not have to eat food and have my ideal body composition.

How many lifting-related shirts do you own?

0-10

What or who gets you to train when your motivation is really low?

I don’t want to have to tell Jordan Stanton I bitched out.

Pre-workout of choice

Barely legal preworkout with a sketchy label that will be banned in a month or two.

What are some of your go-to lifting songs?

Bia Bia by Lil John

What is the most embarrassing song you like?

Every Grateful Dead song?

What’s one of your personal lifting superstitions?

God and gravity are all I need.

What are some of your lifting-related goals for this year?

Set 1 god damn PR, shit!

Do you plan on competing in a meet this year? If so, what are your goals?

No. I’ve never been very competitive in general. Lifting in the garage is fulfilling enough for me.

What have you learned about yourself from barbell training?

My mom always exercised and made sure we ate healthy. She was a good cook, so it wasn’t hard to get us to eat. At an early age, I knew it was important to be healthy and be active. I’m glad that I can continue with the good example she set and be a good son. Barbells have allowed me to do that while eating unlimited cheeseburgers.

Who is someone you’d love to try barbell training and why?

My dad b/c he needs it!

Do you have a role model? Who is it and why?

Not really.

Dead or alive, who would you love to lift with?

Dead, I’d teach Jerry Garcia to lift. Maybe we’d get a few more years of good music if he got healthy. Alive, Bob Weir. Maybe if he got strong, we’d get a few more years of good music!

If BLOC made a yearbook, which do you think you’d most likely win?

Wild card.

How much do you love to eat? 1 – It’s a chore … 5 – What are we eating next???

3

What’s your favorite meal? Please use as much detail as possible.

Bojangles chicken and biscuits!

What was your favorite childhood TV show?

Can’t remember. I did write Led Zeppelin on my 5th-grade binder and had all their CDs by the 7th grade.

What is a movie that you have watched over and over and over again?

Not a movie, but the show Trailer Park Boys

Tell us your best dad joke.

Not a Dad joke, but: What’s a redneck’s famous last words? “Hey y’all, watch this!”

What advice do you have for a new lifter? Or a lifter who’s been doing this a while?

Squat below parallel.

Anything else you would like to share with your BLOC brethren and sistren?

Coolest job EVER!
