“
I was diagnosed with MS right after college. I had lost strength and feeling in my legs from the waist down. The numbness comes and goes now, but I’m squatting 90 pounds more than I was when I first started working with Barbell Logic and my coach. Thanks for keeping me accountable and pushing me.”
BEN
DETERMINED & BARBELL LOGIC CLIENT
“
After a diagnosis of osteoporosis, I finally contacted Barbell Logic and was encouraged to hear that strength training would be something I could actually accomplish and begin to strengthen my bones. Not only was weight lifting completely out of my comfort zone, I never thought I would commit to it the way I have and actually submit videos of myself doing so. It has quickly become an important and essential part of my life. I’m feeling stronger every week with the support of my family and my coach.”

Michael Burgos
Perfect for: Training with injuries or disabilities • Strength training for specific sports • Advanced programming • Training around irregular schedules
As an occupational therapist, I view my clients differently than other health professionals and strength coaches. Programming, exercise selection, and other interventions are selected intentionally to respond to your needs as a whole rather than relying solely on established protocols or book-based doctrine. Basic barbell exercises, linear progression, and Minimum Effective Dose programming are potential tools to use – not the law to abide by. I understand that progress is often non-linear when circumstances are not optimal, and life often makes things less-than-perfect for training.
Since 2014, I’ve worked with a variety of people, including busy small business owners, fellow professional strength and conditioning coaches, military personnel, first-responders, career and recreational martial artists, and blue-collar workforce members who want to be able to provide for their families past age 40. In particular, I excel with working with men who haven’t had success with barbell training – either on their own or with a skilled coach.
When I’m not coaching, you can usually find me reading, studying some kind of skill or language, turning wrenches on my car, practicing martial arts, playing video games, or listening to music that is objectively horrible. If I’m not doing any of those things, I’m taking my awesome wife for a drive around town or people watching with her.
Nikki Burman
Perfect for: Deployed military • Prenatal and postnatal lifters • Competitive Lifters • Nutrition • Training around irregular schedules
Nikki is Barbell Logic’s Director of Client Experience and an Exclusive & Nutrition Coach. She is a master at truly connecting with her clients. She identifies what it takes to drive a person to make incredible changes and goes above and beyond to support them in doing so. She specializes in working with women pre- and postnatal, those in the military, and people wanting to lose or gain weight. Nikki also has a knack for competitive lifters, coaching many through state, regional, and national meets, and multiple clients have set powerlifting state records.
Being a mom is Nikki’s favorite thing in the entire world. Through personal experience of training throughout her pregnancies and postpartum training, she has developed a HUGE passion for working with other Mamas and soon-to-be Mamas. She understands how to guide them through their training, helping fit it into their busy lifestyles, balance those energy demands, and keep them safe and strong.
She also understands the importance of developing healthy lifestyle habits through Nutrition Coaching, no matter what the client’s goals are. She enjoys sharing recipes, guiding clients through their nutrition with habit progressions and/or macro tracking, and giving them the accountability they need to reach their goals. She loves watching a client transform, not just physically but also mentally. Knowing she had a role in the improvement of someone’s overall quality of life is so rewarding!
For military clients, Nikki understands the unique fitness requirements for the different service branches. She has been privileged to coach service members—both deployed and at home—helping prepare them for physical fitness tests while maintaining their strength. Her husband is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, so she understands the demands of being in a military family.
Her certifications include the Professional Barbell Coach, Starting Strength Coach, Precision Nutrition Level 1 and Level 2, USAW, and NASM, and she holds a BS in the Biological Sciences from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Rebekah Krieg
Perfect for: Training with injuries or disabilities • Prenatal and postnatal lifters • Competitive lifters • Advanced programming
Rebekah has set a high standard for coaching. As one of Barbell Logic’s most veteran coaches, she has become far more than just a master of correcting movement patterns, she is also a master at establishing strong relationships with her clients and is one of our more established educators in the Barbell Logic Academy.
Having worked as a Physical Therapy Assistant for fifteen years, she brings a high level of experience to the team and to her clients with an expert eye for recognizing movements that may be causing pain. Between that and her 6 years of experience as a strength coach, she has quite the arsenal for guiding lifters to work around pain or setbacks to continue to build strength.
After a collegiate soccer career, Bekah spent eight years coaching high school girls basketball. Her observations throughout her career as a therapist and as a coach led her to the pursuit of strength training to ensure the reversal of both her client’s atrophy and her own. Bekah does this through highly individualized programming and communication to stay aligned on important goals and life factors. She is a Precision Nutrition Level 1 coach and has worked with many clients to achieve body composition changes.
Bekah has written for Barbell Logic and most enjoys spreading the message that “anyone can get stronger- and the investment is worth it.” A message she and fellow BLOC Staff Coach, Caleb Krieg preach at their gym Krieg Strength in Holland, Michigan. Mac McGregor
Perfect for: Training around irregular schedules • Working with Master’s Athletes • Training with injuries or disabilities • In-season/off-season athletes
mmcgregor@barbell-logic.com
Mac McGregor is the owner and head coach of Capricorn Fitness and Scotland’s only (and the UK’s first!) Barbell Logic Professional Barbell Coach. He served for 16 years in the Royal Air Force Regiment in a former life and after developing Ulcerative Colitis, raising two daughters and caring for his wife Melissa after a stroke, it was time for a change.
He made the jump to being a self-employed personal trainer and sports massage therapist in 2015 and opened his own strength and conditioning gym soon after. Joining the Barbell Logic family as a lifter and academy student was a life-changing experience and making it onto the team as a Staff Coach is something he’ll always be proud of.
In his youth, he focussed endurance-based training and mountaineering, blindly sacrificing strength and power for the ability to just put one foot in front of the other again and again. Now that the grey hair is starting come in thick and fast, he dreams of going back in time and picking up a barbell. Being stronger matters and he knows that you won’t regret adding load to the bar.
His own goals are simple; to be a good father, husband, friend and coach….and to be in top fighting condition when the suitors come calling for his girls!

Anna Marie Oakes-Joudy
Perfect for: Prenatal and postnatal lifters • Competitive lifters • Training with injuries or disabilities
amoakesjoudy@barbell-logic.com
Anna Marie knows a thing or two, or five, about incorporating strength into a busy and fulfilling life. She is a homeschooling mother of five (even pre-COVID), a competitive powerlifter in the USPA and USAPL, and Sole Owner and Operator of AM Strength in Kalispell, MT.
Anna Marie is an excellent guide for women who want to continue training while pregnant. She actually PRd her deadlift while 32 weeks pregnant with her 5th child and trained the big lifts until the week her daughter was born. She was back to training again four weeks after her fastest, easiest labor and delivery.
Coaching a lifter through postpartum training calls for a very special skill set and level of trust that Anna Marie takes pride in establishing. She is a resource for any question or obstacle that may arise during this phase of life.
Her expertise is not limited to pregnant and postpartum women. She has experience coaching people from all walks of life, from competitive athletes to people recovering from knee or shoulder surgery to busy parents and grandparents who just want to be able to play with their kids or grandkids.
As a mom and gym owner, she understands the real-life demands of being a provider and the strength that is required to truly be there for a family. And as a competitive lifter, she knows how to light the right fire in her clients when the time is right to push the limits.
Karl Schudt
Perfect for: Advanced programming • Training around irregular schedules • Competitive lifters
Karl has been lifting for most of his life but got serious about it when his first son was born. Carrying the boy led to painful back spasms. Deadlifting cured the pain, and he discovered how important strength is to one’s quality of life.
He has long been interested in the classics and spent twenty years teaching philosophy in universities. Karl now also works as a seminar host at Online Great Books and co-hosts the Online Great Books Podcast and the Music and Ideas Podcast.
His life plan could be summarized as 1) read books, 2) lift weights, 3) talk about books, 4) coach people to lift weights, and 5) profit. So far, so good!
Niki Sims
Perfect for: Training around irregular schedules • Advanced programming • Competitive lifters • In-season/off-season athletes
Strength is the core of Niki’s personal life and her professional life. She’s spent many years developing a relationship with training, eating and body image that is adaptable and sustainable.
She sees people at war with their bodies, hoping to look and feel like someone else someday, and wants to show them how to change that relationship to a positive one of acceptance, awareness and growth.
As a coach, she will carefully push your limits, and drive improvement by helping you see and appreciate what you are capable of through awareness, habit, and hard work.
She finds a lot of joy in leading the Experience Team for Barbell Logic, learning how to choke people out in jiu-jitsu, and spending as many hours as possible reading on the beach wearing SPF 10000000 because it’s just as fun to enjoy yourself outside of the gym as it is inside of the gym.
Adam Skillin
Perfect for: Strength training for specific sports •
Advanced programming • Training around irregular schedules
Adam spent his late 20s and early 30s focused intently on the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, eventually earning his black belt and putting together a 4-0 amateur MMA record. He realized that he needed to devote himself to some concerted, analytically-driven strength training, so he embarked on a program of progressive overload with squats, presses, deadlifts, and bench presses. He began coaching by accident, as co-workers and training partners would ask for help, following his lead.
In 2014, Adam earned a credential and began coaching paying clients on the side in his condominium loft gym. At the time, he worked a full-time job in the banking industry, so coaching was mainly a nights and weekend endeavor. In 2016, Matt Reynolds asked him to join his upstart online coaching company, and eventually he left the banking industry in 2018 to focus full-time on helping his online and in-person clients become stronger, healthier, and happier with the view in the mirror.
Adam has competed in powerlifting and strength lifting—at first in the 148 lb. weight class and more recently at 165 lb. His best competition lifts are a 197 lb. overhead press, a 295 lb. bench press, 460 lb. squat, and 545 lb. deadlift. He remains focused on improvement rather than any particular long-term weight goals, and encourages this mindset in his clients; lifting to live, not living to lift.

Randy Winfrey
Perfect for: Working with seniors • In-season/off-season athletes • Training around irregular schedules • Deployed military
Randy has been in the fitness industry for 22 years, coaching clients from all over the world both in-person and online. Prior to that, he served in the United States Air Force as a firefighter, then as a Special Agent investigator with the Office of Special Investigations. Both jobs required that he stay in top physical condition to handle challenging situations. He had been training consistently since the late 1970’s, so staying in top physical condition was not a problem for him. In 1997, he left military service and started a personal training business. At first, he focused on endurance athletes since he had experience as a triathlete, and runner. He had always included strength training as part of the program, but over time he became more interested in strength as a foundation for all other physical endeavors. He sought personal guidance from many in the field of barbell sports, such as Jim Schmitz, Joe Dube, Mike Burgener, Tim Swords, Jim Steel and Mark Rippetoe. In 2012, he became a certified Starting Strength coach, taught at various seminars and coached hundreds of people in the barbell lifts. In 2016, Randy moved to online coaching with Matt Reynolds and what is now Barbell Logic. Currently, he is the Athletic Director and Head Track & Field coach at a private school in the Houston area, where he has gone undefeated since 2015. He also coaches in person strength training at his well-equipped home gym.
Randy has an extensive background in many areas of life, including undercover narcotics work, espionage investigations, protective service operations, firefighting, coaching and teaching. He also experienced different cultures by living places such as Italy, Greece, and Spain. This has given him an understanding of training in unfamiliar environments and situations and the ability to adapt.
Now he enjoys being a teacher and using his experiences to help people of all ages, backgrounds and lifestyles achieve their physical fitness goals. Although the basic training variables are frequency, volume and intensity, his underlying motto is, “Life is the forgotten 4th variable that ultimately dictates training.” Consequently, Randy understands how life can impact training and has adapted his training accordingly. He trains as often as possible and at the age of 57 he can still run, cycle, swim, jump, squat and deadlift over 400 lbs, and press 75% of his bodyweight for reps. If you want a coach that can help you become strong regardless of your life’s demands, Randy has the knowledge and experience to help you achieve your goals.

Experiencing pain or injury does not mean that training has to stop. Every situation is unique and having a coach with experience like Liz’ is crucial for working through these phases of training.
Liz has the background to help clients navigate the complexities of training around pain by providing highly individualized programming and expert movement analysis. She is caring and very attentive to detail. Her unique guidance has helped many clients through challenging times.

Caleb Krieg
Perfect for: Advanced Programming • Competitive Lifters • Olympic Lifting
Caleb got his start in coaching years ago as a weak and underweight CrossFitter. Frustrated with his own lack of progress, he learned that simple, hard barbell training produced more results in a few months than all those years of previous exercising had. Wanting to share this, he became passionate about helping get others under a barbell and has now coached hundreds of lifters to PRs.
He has been working as a strength coach professionally since 2014 and with Barbell Logic since 2017. In addition to coaching for Barbell Logic full-time, Caleb and his wife Rebekah own and operate a small semi-private training studio, Krieg Strength, in Holland, Michigan. He enjoys coaching a wide variety of trainees, from average Joes to serious lifters looking to compete in Strength, Olympic, or Powerlifting.
Currently competing in weightlifting in the 96KG weight class. Best Personal Lifts: Squat 525, Deadlift 555, Press 270, Bench 350, Power Clean 315, Snatch 255, Clean and Jerk 335.
Noah Hayden
Perfect for: Working with seniors • Training with injuries or disabilities • Training around irregular schedules
Noah is a strength coach based out of Manchester, Michigan. He interned under Dr. Jonathon Sullivan for two years before earning his PBC credential. He is a Staff Editor with Barbell Logic and coaches clients in person at Greysteel Strength & Conditioning in Farmington Hills.
His father being a competitive powerlifter in the 1970s, Noah grew up with barbells in the home. His interests shifted to martial arts and running early on (unfortunately), but after struggling with chronic back/leg pain for several years as an adult, he re-discovered barbell training as a transformative pain management tool. Sharing the many benefits of strength training with clients, ranging from teenage athletes and “average” working adults to masters in their 70s and 80s, has been some of the most rewarding work of his life.
Noah had a successful career in labor relations and industrial electricity, which he left to pursue coaching full-time. As a naturally curious person, he has a varied background and many interests, including engineering, music, philosophy, woodworking, anthropology, and writing.

Nick Koldewey
Perfect for: Deployed military • Military Training/Selection • Law Enforcement/First Responders • Training around irregular schedules • Strength training for specific sports
Nick’s journey in the strength and conditioning world started when he was 13 years old, when he started playing rugby. The sport was his life (and still is!), and he only cared about becoming a better rugby player. Weight training was a way for him to get bigger and stronger, to dominate on the pitch. He tried many methods of training and read just about every strength and conditioning book he could get his hands on. While on his journey to become a better rugby player, he realized that he really enjoyed researching and discussing physical training and had a knack for showing others how to perform exercises.
Nick attended Radford University in Southwest Virginia, where he earned a B.S. in philosophy. After university, Nick was commissioned into the U.S. Army as an infantry officer. After the military, he moved back to his home state, Virginia, and worked in law enforcement for two years. Yet, during Nick’s years of service, he never stopped weight training, researching, and training others in strength and conditioning. Now, he has turned his passion into his profession.
Currently, Nick lifts out of his garage gym just outside Nashville, TN. If you can’t find him in the gym, you will find him on the rugby pitch, shooting range, jiu-jitsu mats, or (most important of all) spending time with his wife, daughter, and son. Nick has a passion for teaching people how to become their best selves through strength training. He holds the Professional Barbell Certification (PBC), a Personal Trainer Certification from the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA-PT), and a Precision Nutrition certification (Pn1). Nick specializes in working with the military, law enforcement officers, first responders, and security personnel.
