Coach Dan Flanick is an inspired Strength and Conditioning Coach.
He’s inspired to show kids a path toward athletic, academic, career, and life success through his channel-strength training.
In 2011, Dan’s cousin and older brother figure, Josh, passed away from his second bout with leukemia after 4 years in remission. Josh was Dan’s role model and inspiration to earn a scholarship as a catcher.
During those 4 years, Dan watched his role model train his body to get strong after the months of cancer and chemotherapy that degraded his health.
He saw the impact it had on his mind, how he approached living life, and how he tackled the challenges in his path.
Dan recognized that being strong provided far more than physical benefits, alone.
That summer, he started coaching kids at a local gym.
By that Fall, he transferred schools, stopped playing baseball and enrolled in Ithaca college. He would spend his college years studying Exercise Science and coaching athletes at both Ithaca College and Cornell University.
After graduating at the top of his class, he attended graduate school at Baylor University where he earned a master’s degree in pedagogy and spent the majority of his time in the weight room coaching athletes.
After graduating from Baylor, Dan moved to Nashville, Tennessee with his now wife, Dr. Taylor Allen Flanick, where he began his first coaching business.
After leaving Nashville in 2016, Dan and his wife moved back to Central New York for Taylor to attend Chiropractic school.
In April 2017, Dan opened his gym, Skaneateles Strength & Conditioning with his brother-in-law, Dr. Jeffrey Batis and wife, Dr. Taylor. Since that time, his gym has grown from 500 square feet to 2500 square feet with a team of 3 coaches who have worked with hundreds of people between the ages of 13 to 80 years old to make them stronger people inside and out.
In April of 2020, Dan launched a worldwide online strength coaching and habit building service for teenagers called Youth Barbell Club.
He is the co-host of Youth Barbell Club Radio with Cornell Wrestling Coach and 2x NCAA National Champion, Gabe Dean.
And most recently, Dan was appointed the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for Finger Lakes Wrestling Club. A year long development program for the top wrestling recruits in the country.
He works to develop young people physically, mentally, and emotionally, to help them achieve success in all aspects of their lives.
