The biggest benefit is the mental gains.
Starting my day out early with difficult training makes running my business and meeting my duties as a husband and father far less daunting. The strength and physical changes are awesome too.
I have also learned to appreciate the process of getting to a PR. As cliche as it sounds, enjoying the journey and not just the destination applies to strength training for sure. Finally achieving a number you have chased for months/years is a great adrenaline rush in that moment, but once you get there it makes you have a greater appreciation for all the days that led up to it. Specifically the days where you didn’t want to train or stick to the diet etc. I am not sure I will ever be able to shake the mentality of having borderline obsession with hitting certain PR’s. However, I have learned to soak in every session for what it has to offer in that moment (good and bad), and not just go through the motions as a means towards getting to the PR moment.

I love how it makes me feel. It helps with my anxiety and makes me feel more confident in all things that I do really. I love feeling stronger and the excitement of lifting more every time I go out there, and seeing the changes in my body of course!

I have been most proud of my squat. It’s my lightest lift, but it’s one that I’ve come so far with. After having two kids I have had a lot of pain in my c section scar and pelvic region so I had to start with box squats and a dumbbell. And now 4 months later I’m up to 70 lb in the box squat and the pain is so much better. It may not seem like a lot to most but to me it’s a huge deal!

Training gives me a daily dose of energy and positivity, which translates into being a better mom, partner, and overall happier person.
I understand how challenging it can be to juggle everything as a mom, but taking care of myself is just as important as taking care of my family.
When I make time for training, I’m not just improving my physical health; I’m also boosting my mental and emotional well-being. It’s like giving myself a daily dose of energy and positivity, which can translate into being a better mom, partner, and overall happier person.
So, even if I only have a few minutes a day, I commit to making them count. I prioritize my training, even if it means getting creative with my schedule. And I remind myself that progress isn’t about perfection. Every small step I take towards my goals is a win, and my coach is always there to support and celebrate my achievements along the way.

Having Monica as my trainer – she motivates me to show up and when I’m struggling she never makes me feel bad about it. Instead we work through it together!
I’ve always struggled with pressing and with some breaks from lifting, hitting this level always seemed just out of reach when I would come back. I would talk about lifting but it didn’t really look like I did. Then all of sudden my chest and shoulders were getting bigger and I started receiving compliments on how my clothes were fitting and that I looked strong. It was a great feeling that all my hard work was paying off and that my initial goal of improving my physique was coming true.

When I look back on my reason for lifting, it is this: to improve my overall quality of life relating to movement and be able to have that as I age.
I lift regularly because I know that I’m improving in my health and getting stronger overall. I do some substitute teaching a couple days a week. Last year when I started doing the substituting, it would be really challenging to move around the classrooms, and my feet, ankles, and knees were constantly aching. A couple of the schools have two floors and I dreaded if I was assigned a class upstairs because going up and down a flight of stairs was just plain hard for me. Today when climbing that flight of stairs to the classroom I was assigned, I actually climbed them without any difficulty.
So, bring on the muscle ache, pain, or whatever-it’s not going to keep me from moving forward. I just might have to do some side steps here and there. And it would be a whole lot easier to throw in the towel without a coach!
