Coach Spotlight: Alexis Wolfer

We introduce you to Alexis Wolfer, first of her name (sorry to her husband Casey Newman), BLOC VP of Marketing, Queen of Angels Camp and of the First Chickens, Breaker of Keywords, and Mother of Goats.

What do your parents or spouse call you when you are in trouble?


Do you have any embarrassing nicknames? What are they?

Chuch or Chuchie. This is what my sister used to call me growing up because she couldn’t say “Alexis.” Clearly “Chuch” is pretty close.

What actor or actress would you like to play you in a movie?

Emily Hampshire as Stevie in Schitt’s Creek

How long have you been coaching?

~3 years including the prep for getting certified

Have you had other careers, or currently work in another field? What are they?

SEO Nerd at a Digital Marketing Agency, but I’m still a SEO nerd, so no.

What are some of your favorite things to do when you’re not working or training?

Riding my horse, Abby

Bench Press

LOL. HOW ABOUT ALL OF THE ANIMALS (one of my chickens interrupted my lift today)

How long have you been training?

~3 years

What is the most embarrassing moment from any dark days of “lifting” that you may have had?

Taking a selfie after every. single. workout. Nauseating amount of selfies.

What do you love about training? 

It taught me to be kinder to myself about my physical appearance.

What do you love about coaching? 

When my clients tell me how proud they are of their accomplishments in and out of the gym, because they are stronger

What lifting achievement are you most proud of?

Recently, I’m just happy to be lifting regularly again.

Would you rather magically increase each of your PRs by 20%, or magically increase one of your lifts by 100%?

Magically increase each of my PRs by 20%.

What or who gets you to train when your motivation is really low?

Lately I’ve had to tell myself that I don’t have a choice to NOT train. Enjoy it. Just like I’m kind about my physical appearance, I need to be kind about my physical performance. Just get in there and enjoy it.

What are some of your go-to lifting songs?

Any All Time Low song OR Kendrick Lamar

What is the most embarrassing song you like?

Just think of the most vulgar Cardi B song you’ve ever heard. That one.

What are some of your lifting-related goals for this year? 

Would LOVE a bodyweight bench and 315 deadlift. Fuck squats, don’t care. Anything over 101 for press.

Do you plan on competing in a meet this year? If so, what are your goals?

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh maybe.

My dad

Okay I hate to be all emo about this one, but lifting with others makes me anxious 🙁 SORRY.
