Each week, we shine the spotlight on one of our online coaching clients. The simple idea of making ourselves stronger through training brings together people of all different backgrounds and for all different purposes. In sharing our clients’ experiences we hope to share part of what makes our online community of lifters unique.
Mario started lifting 3 years ago. Take a look at his squat 3 years ago at 125 versus his squat this year at 317.5! Mario was a vegetarian for 12 years. Since he began lifting, he has reintroduced meat into his diet and has found that “cutting and bulking as an omnivore is so much easier”!
Mario just bought his first home, and naturally, got right to work on getting his home gym all set up. Congratulations Mario!

Actually, for looks. Starting Strength has changed that, though.
What do you love about training?
I love the feeling of being strong(er). It took me about 36 to feel that for the first time.
What lifting achievement are you most proud of?
315 squat and 8 chins in one set (I started my squat at 95 and couldn’t do a single chin when I started).
Did you ever think at any point in your life that someday you’d be as strong as you are now?
Describe a time after you started training when someone noticed your gains. What was it like?
I’m 6’1” and had dieted down to 158lbs (I was a fat kid and at some point. I wanted to prove to myself that I could have abs. You know that kind of stupidity). Then I started training and gained weight. One day a student complimented my legs which had grown significantly. No one had ever complimented a weight GAIN!
