Matt Reynolds

Matt Reynolds has over 20 years of experience competing in strength sports and coaching barbell-based strength and conditioning. In his earlier life, he totaled “elite” in multiple weight classes in powerlifting and earned his professional status in the sport of strongman. In 2008, Matt founded one of the strongest and largest strength gyms in the country, STRONG Gym, which he sold in 2015 to turn his attention to the broader audience of online coaching.

Today his focus is on improving the quality of life of his clients and staff through the refining power of voluntary hardship (primarily through strength training). In 2016, Matt founded Barbell Logic, a company built to provide the highest quality online strength coaching and educational content in the industry from the finest coaches on the planet with unsurpassed customer service.

Barbell Logic has grown to be one of the largest online coaching companies on the planet, with a successful podcast, YouTube channel, and hundreds of articles on the value of strength training. However, none of this would have been possible without the hard work and support of his incredible staff (and the support of his family).

Niki Sims

Niki is Barbell Logic’s Chief Experience Officer and an Exclusive Coach.

With over a decade of coaching experience, Niki has gained invaluable experience coaching men and women from all training backgrounds, or lack thereof, who have diverse and important goals.

Prior to becoming a dedicated strength coach, she spent many hours chasing aesthetic and flighty goals. Constantly feeling unfulfilled and stuck, it was through dedicated barbell training that she started to fully appreciate the big picture or strength. Goals are now driven by true internal values and motivation, and she hopes to help her clients find the same feeling of fulfillment in their abilities.

Niki believes that through these basic barbell exercises, one is able to connect to something that brings tremendous value to his or her life in countless ways. Through the process of becoming stronger, her clients are rewarded with confidence, usefulness, youthfulness, and growth.

Niki competes in powerlifting and strengthlifting with personal bests of a 290 lb. squat, 120 lb. press, 200 lb. bench, 430 lb. deadlift, and a 100lb. weighted chin-up. She also practices jiu-jitsu and loves to watch sunsets over the beach.

Cameron Cox

Cameron is one of the beefiest coaches on the BLOC staff. He understands that many lifters not only want to BE strong but to LOOK strong.

Drawing from over a decade of training and 5 years of barbell coaching, he specializes in helping clients get strong and look the part. He has gained over 70 muscular pounds in his own strength journey and knows that muscular bulk is much more than 3 or 4 days a week in the gym. It takes building the right dietary habits, culinary skills, and motivation to change one’s body and one’s life. Cameron specializes in teaching those skills, reinforcing the right habits, and creating the program that not only helps his clients achieve their health and strength goals but also LOOK strong while doing it.

Cameron’s clients work hard under his guidance and make incredible transformations.

He is a Starting Strength Coach and owner of Cox Barbell Club in Charleston, SC. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in Recreation Management and has furthered his own education with continuing education courses in Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Kinesiology from Charleston Southern University.

Professional Nutrition Coaching
Gillian Ward

Gillian Ward, originally from Queens, NY, currently lives in Eastern North Carolina and is a gym owner, head strength & conditioning coach, professional athlete, consultant, fitness model, and writer. She has a degree in exercise physiology from Hofstra University with a specialty in cardiac rehabilitation.

“My key strategy is that every moment is a new opportunity for improvement. Every meal, every workout, every rep, every article written, every client that I coach provides an opportunity to learn.”

After 20 years in the fitness industry, Gillian founded the first black iron strength and conditioning gym in Eastern North Carolina, Crystal Coast Strength & Conditioning. Her primary objective is to teach strength training with barbells to people of all ages and abilities. Her lifelong professional mission is to improve quality of life through training, education, and community development.

Gillian was a gymnast at the age of two and competed at the national level until she was 17. She was also a highly accomplished track and field athlete. Gillian distinguished herself in 1995 when she won the United States Marine Corps National Physical Fitness Championship, a competition that included push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, a 300 yd shuttle run, and standing broad jump.

Throughout her twenties, Gillian expanded her pursuits to include ballroom dance, modern dance, and mixed martial arts while continuing to train in the gym. In 2008, she placed 3rd in the CrossFit Games after only three months of specialized training.

Following CrossFit, Gillian found her true passion in barbell sports. Since 2011, she has competed in powerlifting, including a win at the 2013 Southern Powerlifting Federation (SPF) National Championship. Gillian set SPF and Global powerlifting Committee world records in three weight classes—165, 148, and 132s. She has also excelled in Olympic weightlifting and strongman competitions.

As a physique competitor, Gillian entered and won her first women’s physique competition at the 2014 North Carolina Body Building‬‬ Championships, earning her right to compete at the 2014 North American Body Building‬‬ Championships. There, she won her International Federation of Body Building (IFBB) Professional card. She has since gone on to be a successful pro women’s physique competitor and took home a 6th place finish at the 2016 IFBB Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival (“The Arnold”).

On October 22nd, 2016, Gillian set the Guinness Book of World Records record for push-ups by completing 1190 repetitions in 1 hour. Her successful attempt was part of a fundraiser that she organized in order to raise money for the advancement of physical education in Carteret County public schools. As part of her outreach, she visited every public elementary and middle school in the county to teach classes on physical fitness and nutrition.

In 2017, Gillian competed in the IFBB New York Pro, where she took 2nd place as a last-minute (day of competition) entrant. She also competed at the USS Southern States Women’s Cup Strongman Competition in Tampa. She then followed that up six weeks later with a win at the Super League World Championships, becoming the Middleweight and Overall Champion of the World in a new sport that blended both bodybuilding and strength events.

Gillian has since temporarily stepped away from the competitive spotlight to focus all of her attention on developing new programs and helping others achieve their goals. She has spent a lifetime successfully training others from all demographics. She derives true personal satisfaction from the gift of quality of life improvement through movement.

Gillian has provided nutrition coaching for in-person and online clients since 2012. In addition to individualized services, she conducts both a free educational nutritional lecture series that is open to the public at her gym as well as an annual Nutritional Transformation Challenge that combines barbell training, individualized nutritional plans, tracking of metrics, and weekly meetings to ensure success, motivate, and inspire the participants. Gillian is Precision Nutrition Level 1 certified.

She has extensive experience with public outreach, teaching healthy eating habits to children, as well as contest prep nutrition for weight class athletes and bodybuilding competitors from the novice to the pro level.

Additionally, Gillian specializes in the military community helping active duty service members perform better and remain in or achieve their body weight/body composition requirements.

Leveraging In-Person & Online Coaching
Adam Skillin

Adam Skillin has been coaching professionally since 2014 and joined Barbell Logic as a coach in 2016. He has held various strength coaching certifications, including the Professional Barbell Certification. He has quite a background beyond barbell coaching, ranging from banking to Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

In the early 2000s, Adam competed as an amateur MMA fighter, retiring with a 4-0 record. It was during his fighting career that he found his way to dedicated strength training. After earning his black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Adam’s focus shifted toward barbell training and coaching. All this while pursuing a successful career in the banking industry.

It was in 2018 that Adam left the banking race and committed full-time to coaching. His personal experience in balancing strength training with BJJ and strength training with a busy professional life has made him an extremely effective and relatable coach. He is able to work closely with his clients and help them strike the right balance between lifting, work, family, and other athletic pursuits.

Adam occasionally competes in powerlifting and strengthlifting in the 75kg (165 lb.) weight class. His personal best gym lifts to date are 445 lb. squat, 212.5 lb. press, 307.5 lb. bench press, and 550 lb. deadlift.
His focus as a coach is centered on guiding people through the process of becoming and staying strong in order to maximize their quality of life as they age. He helps recreational and competitive athletes become stronger in order to improve their performance in a wide array of sports. Adam lives in Freehold, New Jersey with his wife and their dog, Tiberius, and he’s a sucker for a good (bad) “dad joke.”
