A New Approach to Nutrition Coaching
We live in a time with more information about nutrition than ever before.
There are more gyms, more healthy options at restaurants and markets, and more food delivery services. However, as a culture, we still struggle with weight and nutrition-related health issues. Why?
These nutrition programs don’t take into account the fact that we are human beings and imperfect by nature – we are not machines. We eat for reasons in addition to fuel. We feed the soul and its needs. The current nutrition plans don’t consider the psychological, social and emotional aspects of food and eating behaviors. These plans don’t teach us how to strategize for life events that throw us off course. Lastly, they don’t consider stress, life circumstances, changing levels of motivation, differences in personality and so on.
Diets are temporary. They work only if you prioritize them above all else. You have to want it more than you want anything else, thus the term willpower. And that’s not real life! In real life, we want to fit into our dress, look great at the beach on vacation but we also want to enjoy meals with friends and family.
We’re not going to give up living to fit into that dress.
The result of extreme dieting is unsustainable and so is the process. There is a better way to approach nutrition – one that layers real on top of ideal.
Yes, we need to know the science of a nutrition program such as what and how much to eat, but the plan must be personal, sustainable, enjoyable and understandable. It must adapt to our ever changing wants and needs. This is the only way to maintainable results.
